Maybe even Nōhime. She doesn't even want to think about that...
Still, best to deal with what's right here in front of her. His response practically gives away how happy he likely isn't to see her, but it can't be helped. He did join forces with the very man who killed her.]
You shouldn't run when your older sister calls for you, you know.
heheheheheheh
What do you want of me?
[ Why was she still here? ]
no subject
[A simple desire, really; but maybe it's to be expected from someone like her. Even if she's aware she might be causing him distress, she doesn't bother trying to leave and ease his suffering.
But whether or not that's out of malicious intent...who can say.]
It's been over 400 years and not even a hello?
no subject
Nobuyuki is inclined to think of malicious intent, but then again it really has been so very long. She doesn't seem as aggressive as compared to what he remembers.
(But how reliable can a Berserker's memory be?) ]
Fine.
[ He's quiet again, voice less emotional. At least this is a command he finds capable of obeying. ]
I thought you did not wish to see me.
[ You know. Since he killed her and all. ]
no subject
[And it'd be fair to assume her reasons were less than savoury, perhaps some desire for revenge, but-]
It's been a long time; I've moved past whatever grudge you think I might hold.
no subject
You don't regret what you've done?
[ None of it? ]
no subject
[Her brow furrows. It wasn't even the first thing to come to mind, rather...]
Err...shouldn't I be asking you that? What do I have to regret?
no subject
[ His hands are shaking. The same pained, trapped anger that she would have recognized that he bore at Honnoji. ]
You killed so many. You drove our family to ruins. You didn't tell us anything! Does these not even matter to you anymore?!
[ Okay, the second thing might not necessarily be true, but he's been so fixated on it that it's almost equivalent to the truth. ]
no subject
[He's tortured and it shows; many were by her actions, really. Could any of her family really expected her to go as far as she did? She'd had to kill quite a few of her own family members to secure her position to begin with, so it's not exactly wrong for him to feel that way...
But...she didn't really care, just as she said, and that shows too.]
But nobody - neither in our clan or any other - none of them were prepared to go as far as I did. But the country couldn't be expected to heal without total unification. I only fell short of that because of you.
So don't go expecting any apologies.
no subject
There are plenty of words he could have said. Spit at her, even, discount her as a disgrace and a family wrecker - a tyrant, a demon, someone who had clung even to the earth despite all her sins. But he knows he has no power now. He tried to remedy the situation so many times, but she always overruled or overpowered him - and by the time he could assert himself, it was too late.
And perhaps, there was a single grain of truth in what she had said. That, most of all, strangled anything he could say before they even left his mind.
W̷̘̮̖̪h̸̼̟̻̺̗̰͙y̞͈̬̰̹͔ w҉o͓͍̦̪͓̝͙ṳ̬̥̰͘l͉̤̰͖̦̬͞ḑ̟n̩̕'̷̫̹̯̳t̻̗̝̥̖̜ ̪̙̮̱̘͡s͏̣h̠͘e̡̟͙̲͍̣͙ ̩͓̤̮̠͞l҉͖͕e̛͍̗̤͓̻̺̟a̼̠v̜̬͚̜͚̲̺e͈͖ ̩h̺̥̞í̗̮͓͎m̙ ͖͓̳̰̤̦̼a̮̟̥ͅl̗̱͔ó̘̠̘͈̭͈ṋ̳̺̬͖̮ͅe͚̼?̭̮͙̗̕?̣̙̯͎͇̦͓
In the end, all he manages to make out is a choking sound that sounds suspiciously similar to what most of the other Berserkers would make. ]
no subject
This was the most frustrating thing about all this; if he's a berserker, he could just lose his mind at any minute, couldn't he? Especially if she's the source of his anger. That she'd pushed him to the brink that resulted in Honnoji, that he'd been incarnated as a container for madness.
Not that she cares as much as people would tell her to. Hell, that he'd told her to.
Well...]
Nobuyuki. ...youre getting too worked up.
Try to contain yourself.
[She's not chosen the best way to phrase it, but...her tone doesn't convey it as an order.
But don't misunderstand. She loves Gudako dearly; she doesn't want to cause that girl trouble by picking a fight with another one of her servants.]
no subject
Without his Noble Phantasm, anyway. But even a Berserker like him knows not to cause inconvenience for his Master, even if he was only recently summoned.
So he nods. Hands still clutching at his clothes, but he settles just a bit. ]
no subject
Eventually though, she approaches a desk and lays a hand on the back of the chair, sliding it to face him.]
Sit down.
no subject
Following orders is easy. It doesn't require much thoughts. He takes his seat, hands folded in front of him, not looking at her either. ]
no subject
What now...?
The truth is, she's not good at this elder sister role. She wasn't much of a daughter, a sister, a wife or a mother. 22 children and she wasn't close to any of them
SOMEHOW I DONT GOTTA EXPLAIN SHIT, her relationship with her parents was never any good...maybe she's just not cut out for family.Even so, she's stuck with them. And she's trying...that's something...]
What were you reading...?
no subject
And yet, they are now on speaking terms for the first time in, well, centuries. At least her question is something he can answer. ]
I read about gardens. I thought... we could perhaps make one here. It would be beautiful.
[ The effort would give him something to focus on, as well. He knows he's weak, and thus less likely to be sent out on important missions. ]
no subject
[It's sincere, at least. She had as much love for the aesthetically pleasing as any other Oda did; art, poetry, well tended gardens, gold statues, finely crafted swords...
Well, maybe some of those were more her own taste.]
Ah, you should ask her, you know. My dearest retainer is an amiable sort - it wouldn't be too much trouble to pop out for the necessities.
[Well, we've sorted nobuyuki's interlude anyway.
But notably she doesn't refer to Master as Master.]
no subject
A place for meditation between battles. That was my intention.
[ His interlude probably involves Honnoji in some measure.
If anything, there's a slight pause of surprise when he registers what she's said - but it all makes sense to him, in hindsight. Of course his elder sister would have done that, given her personality. He still refers to Master by her role name, due to his politeness and the fact that he isn't a lord like Nobunaga is. ]
I could... ask. I still need to read. There is much to learn in this era.
no subject
It can't be helped, then. I'll see to it personally you're well educated.
[Definitely a far cry from how she was alive, to be sure. It's likely in life she'd dismiss him on the grounds of having no free time, among her many other reasons.
But it isn't really an issue here.]
no subject
You would? [ She's being nice to him. Almost too nice. ] Then, thank you.
[ He doesn't have anything to counter that. She has the experience, the seniority, the superiority. ]
The missions, however. The Master does many things. I have a feeling that perhaps I may not be allowed to accompany her.
[ Maybe it's because of his newness, maybe it's because of his lack of strength entirely. But he's been told explicitly to stay in base, for whatever reasons. ]
