some witches live in villages, while others live out in the wild. like this particular witch, who dresses more like a hunter, hunting those who would cut down trees without the permission of the dryads or overfish. they're wardens of nature, in this sort of place... and that includes the creatures who live in it.
she's not usually one to adopt creatures, no - just nurse them back to health and let them be on their way. but this particular creature - no, person is quite exceptional. it had human form, possibly a spirit, yet it had been found lying in a pool of viscous black blood.
good thing that she found it instead of any other witch, then. she's naturally resistant to things like these, so she had taken the spirit home and cleaned its form of all that dried blood. it looks quite cut up too, which leads to questions about who or what hurt it... but that can wait, after it has mended.
so she's in her house now, the spirit sleeping in her bed, wrapped up by soft sheets while she does her daily cleaning routine. someone should be coming to visit soon... ]

And while usually a secluded person, Lapis soon found herself taking in a... well, she still isn't sure herself. Neither a person nor a spirit, at least one she's familiar with - far different from the small sprites that fluttered around her gardens, or the spirits that dwell within the earth. Either way, she found herself grateful for his company - her time in the woods far lonelier than she had wanted to admit.
Though, another part of her role is extending aid to her fellow witches if they need it - especially in a case like this. Having asked her companion to tend to a few things in her absence, checking on hybrids and analysing growths, before she heads out - making sure to pack everything she would need, her steps quick as she heads towards another part of the wood.
And so as Crim goes through her routine, there will be a few quick knocks on the door - golden eyes peering up at the other woman once the door is answered. Lapis then raising her hand in greeting, expression settled into something still and calm.]
Good afternoon, Crim, I'm Lapis. You had called for me...?
no subject
she's dressed in simple hunting clothes, as if she expects herself to bolt out of the house in a moment's notice. but there's nothing tense about her countenance, at least not yet. ]
I did. Thanks for coming, I made tea, it's on the table if you're thirsty.
[ she closes the door behind her fellow witch, the latch falling in place naturally as a gust of wind. precautions, really. ]
I found a spirit a few hours ago, it seems badly hurt. I don't think I can treat it well so I was wondering if you could take a look.
no subject
And while Crim is dressed as a hunter, Lapis's attire seems more in-line with a typical witch - flowing skirts and a long shawl, all in pale and earthy colours. One hand smooths against the fabric of her skirt as she steps in, nodding in thanks while the other hand keeps a firm hold on her bag strap.
Though while she can't resist the call of tea, golden eyes are still focused on Crim as she speaks - humming softly as she takes a sip from her cup. Then she places it back down, adjusting her bag on her shoulder once more - with how much she brought, it's a heavy weight. But better to bring too much than too little.]
Can you show them to me? I've brought most of my medical supplies, so I should be able to do something.
no subject
Yeah, of course. This way.
[ crim's house is very much an example of organized chaos - there are papers spread around tables and jars unlabeled with anything specific, but it seems like she doesn't need one; that she knows where everything is. the door opens up to crim's bedroom, with a small desk accompany a large bed. the bed is between a queen-size and a single person size, which might speak some about crim's own sleeping habits.
BUT ANYWAY. the spirit is tucked up in her bed presently - one that looks surprisingly human, with a full spread of grey hair. there are what seems to be thick scars on the lower half of its face. its arms are bandaged rather neatly (crim's work, no doubt) and pulling aside the blanket would reveal that most of its body is covered with wounds. ]
I'm glad it's still alive....
no subject
And neither can Lapis judge Crim's sleeping habits, considering her own bed is both far too big for one person and covered with one too many pillows. But right now Lapis's main concern is who is in the bed, golden eyes examining the spirit curiously - she's really never seen any like it.
Her mind drifts back to her own companion, wondering if they're maybe similar somehow... But she can think on that later, once she's helped this spirit - pulling the blanket back and humming as she looks over the wounds.]
Mmm, I'm glad you were there to help. I'm not sure it would have made it otherwise... [The witch is quiet for a moment, before she reaches into her bag to pull out bottles to examine - bottles clear and filled with flora, and bottles with liquids that glimmer with the slightest movement or so dark that no light can touch it.]
I imagine there was no time to check, but did you see anything else there?
no subject
I found it in what's probably a pool of its own blood. [ it's every bit as gruesome as it sounds - the blood stained her robes, which is why she's in hunting clothes today instead of her usual casual coats. ] I suspect someone attacked it and left it for dead.
[ whoever that is, if they're still lingering in the area, that could be dangerous for everyone living inside. ]
What sort of spirit is it, anyway? I've never seen anything like it before.
[ most spirits tend to have very obvious indicators of what they presided over. this one looks almost like a teenager...... ]
no subject
It does seem like it. I'll go investigate the area once the spirit is stabilised.
[Maybe there's some kind of hint, any physical or magical traces of the one who had done this. Lapis hopes so, the repulsion and outrage that someone would attack a spirit like this burning brightly inside her.
But first, she must make sure that it's stable. Humming in response to Crim's words, before shaking her head - eventually seeming to settle on a bottle full of a clear liquid.]
I'm not sure, I haven't seen anything like this either. It seems young, though... [Which makes it a bit harder to chose the right potions... Most she has work on varieties of spirits, but she's uncertain about the effects on this one.
She eventually settles on a bottle of clear liquid with a slight sheen - this is one of her more 'neutral' potions, so it can be used on most spirits. Hopefully it will help this one... Pulling the cork, before reaching for a glass dropper kept in another compartment of her bag - a soft, earthy scent now filling the room.
Once some of the potion is onto the dropper, she reaches to lift it above one of the wounds - if all works well, the potion should facilitate the healing and have the wounds close.]

[ she watches lapis work with the manner of a worried owl - the other witch had a knack for making natural remedies, so this should be fine. most things that hurt spirits were usually designed to do so, and while this spirit had some kind of a strange constitution, it didn't strike her as particularly malicious.
so she watches as lapis drips the concoction over recently washed wounds, and heaves a slow sigh of relief as the cuts on its thin body begin to close. one thing stands out to her, though - how its blood isn't the usual multicolour that spirits have, but a strange, dark green.
it doesn't wake up just yet, so she helps lapis apply the medicine to most of its injuries. maybe it just needs a bit more rest, so she motions for the other witch to step back so she can start on returning those bandages back to order - and then its eyes flutter open, staring up at the ceiling and then the two witches.
it has rather interesting eyes - green, with a ring pattern. crim freezes, tries to arrange her expression into something suitably harmless: ]
Uh... hi! How do you feel?
no subject
[She hopes - that would make it easier to help it find its way home, and for it to get home safely. For now, she needs to make sure this spirit is healed - releasing a breath she didn't know she had been holding as the cuts begin to heal.
Yet, the green of its blood is another curiosity, golden eyes peering at it for a moment. It's a colour she's never seen, even among the colourful shades a spirits' blood can have - and it's something she examines still as each wound is closed up. Once she's done, she doesn't hesitate to step back at the other witch's motion - placing her equipment back into her bag with a soft sigh.
Now she watches and waits, eyes widening just slightly as the spirit finally awakens - Lapis's own expression something still and calmly, regarding the spirit with a slight tilt of her head once it sits. Everything about this spirit is unlike anything she's seen before...]
We've tended to most of your wounds, but let us know if you're still in pain.
no subject
crim takes a step forward, but stops herself from going too close: just in case the motion startles the spirit. but it doesn't seem to react to that intrusion, blinking again at the ladies for a few more moments before shaking its head.
when it does speak, its voice is very soft, so that they have to go closer to hear. ]
.... am I dead?
no subject
The shake of its head is a quiet relief though, glad that it doesn't seem to be in any lingering pain - another soft sigh escaping from her. Though she does have to lean a bit closer to hear it speak - blinking in surprise for a moment at its words. Though maybe it's not too surprising, considering how badly it was attacked...]
No, you aren't. Crim found you - [Her head nods towards the other witch.] - and we managed to treat you. You're alive and safe.
no subject
Thanks.
[ Though from how flat its tone is, it's hard to tell if it's happy about this. Crim purses her lips, before posing a question: ]
We can get you home if you'd like. After you've recovered, of course.
[ It remains silent for a few moments, still speaking in that hollow sort of voice: ]
Don't have one.....
no subject
Only to then find herself blinking at its words, humming softly as she rests her hands on her hips. Surely it must've come from somewhere, then, even if it doesn't have a home...]
Then... Do you have a family, or anything like that?
no subject
Not anymore.
[ Crim almost sighs. Clearly, the solution is presented to them thusly, but she's not sure of her own ability to enact it... ]
That's okay. You can stay here for now.
[ She casts a glance at Lapis, silently asking for affirmation ]
no subject
Clearly this is going to be a bit more than just healing a spirit, but for now there's the issue of where it could stay. Already glancing over at Crim, quietly hoping she'll offer - and finding herself relieved when she does.
And so once the other witch glances over, she gives her a nod - smiling for a brief moment, before her eyes flicker over to the spirit.]
You'll be safe here with Crim. And if there's any issues, she can call me and I'll be over quickly. [Though, there's one more thing to clear up - ]
Though, do you have a name? [Some spirits do, some don't. It all really comes down to their preferences and cultures.]
no subject
Ain......
[ Crim nods, affirming that she's heard. Maybe she can do some asking around to see if any other witches knew spirits with this name... and certainly, there are spirits with this name. The person who knows one is right next to her.
She peers curiously at Lapis, if she sees any sign of recognition on the other witch's face. ]
no subject
[Now there's an obvious change in Lapis's expression - eyes widening as both recognition and surprise sets in. She certainly does know another Ain, considering one currently lives with her.
Does that mean they're similar spirits? They're so completely different though, both in appearance and personality...]
Do you... know about any other spirits with the same name? [The question is directed to Ain, golden eyes glancing over at Crim before her attention settles on the spirit once more. Maybe now they can get a better idea of what kind of spirit it is...]
no subject
Crim tilts her head, casting Lapis a curious look. That must mean she's met someone with an identical name. Unless the spirit gave a role name? But it doesn't sound like something that describes a class of spirit than anything else... the mystery deepens.
As for the spirit itself, it shakes its head a little before drawing the sheets up to cover the bottom half of its face. Crim ponders the merit of trying to give it a headpat or something, but: ]
Do you know him, Lapis?
