[ after she's managed to settle some affairs, wrangled out some answers to satisfy her paranoia, and locate a room for herself - one that was, hopefully, remote and far away from the others' sleeping quarters that most wouldn't bother her - does lorem search out for her friend.

she leans against the opening of his room, remembering her ingrained manners long enough to rap her knuckles against the stone frame to announce her presence to him. when he notices her presence, lorem graces him a quick (and, oddly enough, nervous) smile.

[ she rubs the back of her neck, a sign of her being agitated and worried over something. if she could, she would be running a hand through her hair but she's already pinned it up for bedtime after this much needed talk. ] My son is here and I would like to avoid him, if possible. Like him to not know my presence but I don't think that's feasible so dodging it is.

[ Alex is tidying his room. While the setting has robbed him of his telepathy, he isn't as nervous about it as he was previously - one learns to adjust to it as they mature, and his practice with interaction has lessened his dependency on it.

His usual light smile dampens into something more suitable as she talks; something thoughtful. ]

[ He's not quite sure who that person is, but it sounds serious. ]

Is there a reason why you don't want to see him?

Because he'll want to talk to me.

[ that's her biggest worry right now. he'll find out about her. he'll get excited. he'll try to find her and have a discussion and.

and. ] I don't know- I don't know if I can- [ she makes a disgusted noise at the back of her throat, momentarily frustrated with her sudden inability to put her thoughts into words.

it's only knowing she's in the presence of her friend that she allows herself to feel the anger, the frustration. he won't use her weakness against her. he won't judge her while she tries to compose herself and try again. ]

I don't know if I can handle seeing him. I never thought this would be possible and I- I preferred it that way.

[ There's much he doesn't understand. Much that he's sure goes above his head - but even so, even without his echo, Lorem's frustration is palpable. Even if it is inexplicable, indescribable; it still exists.

[ He's not sure how he'll go about this subterfuge but he'll try his best. ]

I think their group might be departing soon. We can stay behind or maybe ask to go somewhere else.

[ she presses a hand over her mouth, trying to keep her sigh of relief from being too obvious. ]

[ it's a set of words she's said many times in the past few years of her life; it's a set of words she's said without meaning it, time and again.

this most definitely is not the case. she says it with genuine relief, shooting a brief and appreciative glance towards alex as she gathers herself. perhaps its best to try and move on from this awkward chat. ]

I think it's best that some stay behind. [ can they stay behind? she had no idea this is an option, but she won't complain if it is. ] I'll like to explore this place more. Get a better idea of how this all works for us and our host.

[ It seems the issue is settled to him, so he can push it aside and focus on what they're about to do next - to plan for their stay here and what they will do going forward. ]

[ It is a little disconcerting to spend time without his ability, and it might be good for him to get it back. ]

[ she doesn't say, 'thank you' again, but she does send alex a grateful look at the offer for staying behind with her instead of going with the others. she doesn't think she'll do well by herself, so having company would be a relief.

especially if the company if someone she trusts. she knows when to count her blessings and alex's presence is very much a blessing to her.

at the question, she shakes her head. ] No. I haven't yet had the chance to do so. [ she looks agitated, though it's aimed at herself, not at alex. ] Not enough time. With what meeting new faces and trying to figure out what's going on and... things.
